Obituary of Joyce Godwin

The passing of Evelyn “Joyce” Godwin of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Walter Godwin occurred on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on November 9, 1934 in Essex, England, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Alridge) Martin.  Joyce immigrated to Canada in 1967; lived five years in Winnipeg, she then moved to Fredericton in 1972.  Joyce worked for many years as the counter clerk at Bell Boy Dry Cleaners.  Joyce enjoyed knitting and crocheting; loved caring for house plants and had a fondness for animals.  One of Joyce's favorite things to do was spend time with family and friends enjoying a good laugh.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Julie Godwin of  Nova Scotia and Janice Godwin-LeBlanc (Kim) of  New Brunswick; son, Martin Godwin (Sandra Ayotte) of Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Matthew Rogers (Christine Morris) and Justin Payne (Jihyeon Sim) both of Nova Scotia, Jennifer McDonald (Mathew Martin) and Lindsay McDonald both of New Brunswick, Stephanie Murray (Jason) of Alberta and Michele LeBlanc (Alex Currie) of New Brunswick; great grandchildren, Aiden, Logan, Alexis, Brantley, Layla, Chloe and Blaine; sister, Vera McSweeney (Oliver) of England; several nieces and nephews; many great friends. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was predeceased by her sisters, Florence Elliot, Irene Lizzimore and Joan Struther (George); and brothers, Joseph, Edwin and Thomas Martin.

There will be no visitation by request.  A Celebration of Life by invitation only will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 2 pm with Rev. Kevin McAllister officiating.  Public is welcome to register to view the live stream at www.yorkfh.com.
