Yvette has brought so much to the Nashwaak Pastoral charge and the community as a whole. She was just who we never knew we needed.
She visited our Taymouth markets on a regular basis just to say hi and check in with those who needed her.
We will miss your beautiful smile Yvette and your wave from across the market yard. Now we're waving to you but it's good by but you are still here in our hearts, always!
I was lucky to have attended Yvette's funeral and early in the service I had this incredible feeling up my arm and on my shoulder and It felt like she put her hand on my shoulder. I looked up and smiled. I then pictured her going around the room during the service and pausing at each person's chair and putting her hand on their shoulder all the while with her huge bright smile on her face as if she was really enjoying her funeral. It was an awesome feeling. Thank you Yvette!
The photo was taken by Susan Young at one of our markets that she attended a year or two after she arrived in the community.

Thank you very much for sharing this visitation experience, Connie.
When Revs Yvette and Jane Johnson were meeting with the deMarsh family in the Wilmot church sanctuary before the memorial service for Peter, to place flowers, photos etc., a large framed picture of the black crowned crane (on Peters birding list) fell down and the glass shattered. Some of us, including Yvette remarked upon how Peter was just letting us know he was there - with humour and love.

While I wrote to Malcolm by email, I want to send my condolences to all who have known and loved Yvette, all who have been touched by her life, her faith, her love and her strong courage. I met her in Bermuda, preached at the recognition of her candidacy service at Wesley in Hamilton before she left to study at AST, helped her with some forms etc., and later tried to be a supportive friend throughout her sadly rocky journey to ordination and her ordained ministry. I absolutely agree with Steve that she was a victim of sexism, racism and even misogyny. She was tenacious in her belief in her vocation and gracious in the face of disappointment and rejection. She was generous in her forgiveness. I respected her commitment and perseverance. I was deeply saddened to learn of her death as were my family who had all met her and knew her kindness and her joy in life. Thank you to Kelly, Steve, Thomas, and all who participated in the service today. A celebration of an amazing special loving woman. May she rest in peace and may we all be comforted by the love she gave and by God's continuing love for us.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of this dear woman.
My connection to Yvette is through Wilmot United Church. I worked in the office at Wilmot.
Yvette came to Wilmot frequently to meet with Rev. Rose-Hannah Gaskin so I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Yvette as well. She had the biggest smile and was always so pleasant. She always took time to stop at my office and have a little chat with me.
I know she must have touched the lives of many many people and will be dearly missed.
Be assured, she is receiving her reward in heaven.

Our deepest condolences to the Swan family on the loss of Yvette from all of us at St. John's United church in Halifax. She was such a courageous, warm-hearted (but plain-speaking woman), a pleasure to have around the church. We met when she was our "student minister" (although in fact her wealth of experience made her an invaluable teacher). I still treasure a "race plant" that she gave me when she left--a brightly coloured plant in our living room--to remind me of the need for people of all races and backgrounds to unite. Her booming laugh, deeply-rooted sense of justice, quick-witted nature, and support for Leeds United soccer team (which she mentioned to annoy, since she knew that I was a fan of Everton!) will always stay with me. An extraordinary woman--and one whom we were privileged to have known. With love and respect to Malcolm and the family from the Kirks at St. John's.

We send our most sincere sympathies to Malcolm and family. We enjoyed Yvette so very much when she was at St. Paul's - her warmth and humour and caring were always in evidence, and so appreciated. We were so impressed with her commitment to her calling to ministry, it obviously involved sacrifice, being away from family. That she was a woman of conviction was obvious. We are so very sorry for your loss, especially in these times when travelling and being together is so very difficult. Our hearts go out to you all. We wish you healing and happiness in the memories, and peace as you travel the road ahead. Paul & Gail Burns & family,

On behalf of the deMarsh family, I am sending our loving sympathy to the family of Rev Yvette, especially to her husband Malcolm and their three sons. At our darkest hour, when my brother Peter died so tragically, Rev Yvette provided constant support during the time of immediate shock and then at the memorial together with Rev. Jane Johnson where they formed a wonderful team. Later we appreciated her attending the tree dedication ceremony. Peter and Yvette are remembered having wonderful chats together as they shared their lives in service to social justice which extended from the local to the international level.
When my mother was hospitalized after a fall Yvette visited and provided loving support as she endured an endless hospital stay. In fact, one of Mom's favourite hospital gifts was a lovely stuffed snowy owl she received from Yvette and which she continues to keep close by.
We wish Yvette's family all possible comfort in the wonderful memory of the way she extended loving kindness to so many. We will continue to keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
With Love,
Helen deMarsh for the deMarsh family

Rev Yvette had a precious ability to focus on the individual and the community at the same time. When Peter died in the 2019 Ethiopian airline crash, she opened up the church and made herself available to community members needing a space to grieve in supportive company.

Our sincere sympathy to Malcolm and family on the loss of Yvette. She was a wonderful caring, kind, compassionate lady with a ready smile, a hug, and a wonderful sense of humor We were so fortunate to have her as our minister, our neighbour and our friend. She was there for us through our happy times and our sad times. When our grandson, Colt, was born at 28 weeks, Yvette was there to help our family with prayers and support. Colt and Yvette had a special bond, and he will miss her, as will all our family. May your happy memories help you through this difficult time. A donation has been made to the Taymouth United Church in memory of Yvette. Sending love and prayers, Russ and Ethel

My heartfelt condolences to the family of the Reverend Yvette Swan. Yvette was a Sista, a colleague and a friend. We had so much in common as we were both born and raised in the same parish in Jamaica where her parents and my grandparents were very good friends. We were also nurtured in the Methodist Church where strong leadership skills were instilled in us from a young age. Ministry was also a second carrier later in life for us. Yvette was committed to her calling, she loved the people she was called to serve and was a beacon to the community in which she lived. She loved this United Church of Canada and was committed to many areas in which she felt her gifts were needed. Your light is gone out from amongst us, your love and deep memories will live on in those you have left behind. Enjoy your rest my friend and may you dance with the ancestors. You have left your footprints on my heart until then my friend. Reverend Eleanor Scarlett

This beautiful soul, and her beautiful husband, were waiting for me when I arrived at the local golf club for dinner after coming from my husband's burial. I had never met them, but Yvette was a first cousin to one of our dearest friends in Toronto. And they showed up. I am sorry I never made an effort to see you after I arrived here to live. I'll see you on the other side, for another 'Arnie Palmer' or two. Peace be with your family, dear Yvette.
