Obituary of Wilma Elaine Payne

Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Wilma Elaine Payne of Fredericton, NB, wife of George Payne, occurred on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.  Born on January 8, 1949 in Doaktown, NB, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Inez Minnie (O'Donnell) Lyons.

Wilma had a great career with the Department of Natural Resources until retirement and had an incredible work family.  Wilma made friends wherever she went and always had a smile on her face; she was always ready to help anyone.  She never missed a work function, no matter what part of the province it was happening in.  She had many different jobs throughout her career; she would say that her most challenging and rewarding was when she was a part of the building team when the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Center was built.  She said I don't even know how to read a blueprint.  After retirement Wilma continued to attend work functions and stayed in contact with her co-workers, everyone loved Wilma.

She loved playing crib, bingo and attending dances at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Fredericton.  Above all she enjoyed spending time with her cherished grandchildren, Morgan, Delaney, Jaycee.

Wilma is survived by daughter, Lisa Payne; grandchildren, Morgan Payne and Delaney Nason; great granddaughter, Jaycee MacDonald; siblings, Sheila (Leonard) Price, Gloria O’Donnell, Peggy (Loren) Lyons, Mavis (Merrill) McKay and Bennett (Linda) Lyons; nieces and nephews, Julie (Cam) Hiller, Matthew (Rachel) Price, Bennett (Monica) Hunter, Jamie (Travis) Hunter, Sarah (Chris) Wilson and Laura Lyons; great nieces and nephews, Caleb, Elianna and Timothy Hiller, William, Lauren and Molly Price, Matthew and  Aaron Hunter, Christen and Casey Wilson.

There will be no services by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Brunswick Kidney Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
