I am so sorry to hear about Mary Lou. I have very fond memories of her, as I spent my summers with my Grammie, Ina MacFadzen and would tag along with the coffee gals. I remember her great sense of dry humour which I came to appreciate much more the older I got, as well as her infectious laugh. I’m glad I was able to see her at Grammie’s funeral, and saddened it was the last time. I recently came across this photo of Mary Lou meeting my daughter for the first time, of course it was during a coffee date with all the ladies! I will always have these memories and will cherish the time I spent with her. Much love, Lauren

To the McKinley & Hallett family- my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Letting go is so very hard to do and yet it is something each of us are called to do, no matter if we are ready or not for this day when it comes - our Mom's are the life-givers, the ones who love us the fiercest- no matter what, discipline us, teach us to laugh, share, be grateful, and to love one another.....to go out in the world - giving us wings & wisdom to make our own choices. I know your Mom was all this and SO much more. Hugs to each of you and may the joy, the laughter, the stories & memories of Mom surround you like a big warm hug in the days & weeks to come

Our heartfelt condolences and hugs to the entire family.
As a young family and in our first home, we couldn't have asked for better neighbour's than Don and Mary Lou - they were always so kind and thoughtful.
I remember when our daughter, Brianne, was perhaps 4 years old and furious with her older brother for something and she stormed out the back door bound and determined she was going to live with Don and Mary Lou.
The wonderful smells that would come wafting out of the kitchen window when Mary Lou was cooking or baking and the samples she'd let us have ... Mmmmm so good!
The 'happy' weekends she and Melanie decided it was time to bottle their newest batch of wine - the laughs the two of you had sharing that hobby Melanie and the laughs we'd have chatting with the two of you about what you were up to that day.
How many times I'd go outside in the dang spring or summer to find Mary Lou at the top of a ladder cleaning the outside of her kitchen windows - when she was in her 70's!!! The first time I saw this I immediately went over and said "I can help you do that Mary Lou" to which she'd answer (as with most things) something like "oh no, I'm fine but thank-you" so I'd leave but would secretly keep an eye out on her from my house. She was so fiercely independent!
My fondest memory of Mary Lou is the sweet sounds of her playing the piano when she'd have the windows open. She didn't know it but I'd stay outside as long as I could with/without the kids just so I could listen to her. My grandmother played the piano and she died at a young age so it warmed my heart to listen to Mary Lou. What a talented woman she was!
Although we can all say that it's a blessing that she's no longer in pain, which it is of course, but it doesn't unfortunately take away the heartache and the loss you must all be feeling. Again, she was an incredible, amazing, gracious matriarch of the family and we are thinking of you all!
Cheers to you Mary Lou!
