Obituary of George Versloot

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Versloot passed away at Windsor Court on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.  He left this earthly life to eternal life in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was born on February 26, 1930 in Haastrecht, Holland. His parents were Peter Versloot and Marrigje vanLeeuwen.  He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters:  Peter, Jan, Dirk, Aart, Marinus, Map and Sia.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased in Canada by his son Arthur (Karen) and wife Gerda.

George leaves behind 3 sons:  Peter Versloot (Grace), George Versloot (Shari) and Eric Versloot (Marcia); 3 daughters: Margaret Thompson (Ellis), Yvonne Brilman (Andre) and Evelyn Bokma (Donald) and daughter in law Karen Versloot (Paul).  George’s 20 grandchildren (Ryan, Daniel, William, Amy, Adrian, Aaron, Genessa, Nathan, Nick, Melissa, Lucas, Isaac, Erin, Sarah, Josie, Austin, Hannah, Alex, Charlee and Noah) and 21 great grandchildren were all very, very special to him. George loved being an Opa!  He felt very blessed to have such a large family!  And he sure loved when family and friends would gather at his house on Sunday after church for coffee and lunch.

George loved his church community and was a founding member of the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church.  He had specifically asked that this be noted in his obituary:  His love of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and for his church family.

Under the title “special hobbies or interests”, George wrote that he had always been a farmer at heart.  He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and has NEVER BEEN SORRY!  He loves Canada and Canadians very much and is ever so thankful for the Canadians liberating Holland.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, July 12 from 2:00-5:00.  Social distancing rules will be in place.  A service celebrating George’s life will be held at the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church, 121 McAdam Ave, Fredericton on July 13, 2020 at 1 pm with Pastor Dan Hoogland officiating.
