LAWRENCE, GORDON “GORDIE” DOUGLAS

It is with great joy that Gordie has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Born in Fredericton on November 8, 1945, he was the son of Doreen V. (Bardwell) Lawrence and the late G. Byron Lawrence. Gordie was a well-known drummer in many bands. His career started in1963 with The Impalas and Nite Lights. Gordie also played in a country band that toured with Hank Snow and Wilf Carter. He then played with 5 Wheel Drive, Cadillac Jack and many other bands. In 1987 Gordie became a new Christian and never looked back. He then drummed with Bill LaPointe and in other churches for about seven years before he retired. Gordie was in the retail business for about 35 years where he was well known as the "Candy man". After he sold his business, he went to work for ICS Courier and loved going to Woodstock and Perth Andover meeting many new people as he made his deliveries. He enjoyed going to church and being with friends after church. His favourite verse in the Bible was John 3:16.

In addition to his mother, Doreen Lawrence, Gordie is survived by his children, Phillip Lawrence and Angie Topple; sisters, Judy (Gregg) Cumberland, Elizabeth (Bert) Fusk and Carole-Ann (Brian) Webb; grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Gordie was predeceased by his nephew, Colby Stewart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of York Funeral Home. Due to current issues in these uncertain times Gordon's family has decided that a quiet graveside service will take place at St Mary’s Anglican Church Cemetery. Remembrances can be made to the SPCA or Fredericton Homeless Shelter. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.

❤ Gordie's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the Angels here on Earth that assisted him over the past few years as his health declined. Through phone calls, visits, errands and comfort food, prayers & love from those who have been by his side; Gordie was truly blessed.
