Obituary of Lyman Harold Webb

Join us in celebrating the life of Lyman Webb, a man who loved his family deeply, was a dedicated and passionate educator, who lived an exemplary Christian life in the service of others.  Aged 99, Lyman was born in New Jerusalem (now CFB Gagetown), the eldest son of the late Elbridge and Lillian (Dougan) Webb, February 25, 1921. He passed away peacefully at York Care Centre on Thursday, June 4, 2020.

Lyman graduated as a teacher from Provincial Normal School, and as a life-long learner, earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of New Brunswick. He taught school in Saint John, NB for 42 years, acting as Principal for a number of years during his career. Upon retirement, he moved with his wife Vera to Fredericton. He was an active member of the Devon Park Baptist Church were he served on the Board of Deacons, Library Committee and sang in the Living Christmas Tree Choir. He attended Germain Street Baptist Church, Saint John, NB for 34 years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, member of Board of Deacons, and sitting on various other boards and committees. He was a member of the Society of Retired Teachers’ Association, an honorary member of the New Brunswick Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association and Gideons International.

Lyman is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 49 years, Vera (Bevans) Webb and four brothers; Elmer (in infancy), Marshall (1999), Chester (2011) and Earl (2013). He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Ward (James), Fredericton, NB and Julie Johnson (John), Halifax, NS; three grandchildren, Zachary James Ward (Sheryl), Winnipeg, MB,  Sarah Beth Lyons, (Greg), Fredericton, NB and Jared Marc Longard (Michelle), Weyburn, SK. He is survived by 2 great grandsons, Jackson Gregory Lyons and Owen Zachary Ward; three great granddaughters, Claire Grace Lyons, Abigail Diane Ward and Katriona Iona Longard, and many nieces and nephews.

Lyman’s family wish to extend their deepest gratitude to all staff of the York Care Centre for the kind, compassionate care shown to him during his years of residency.  Your attentiveness to his needs gave us confidence that he was receiving excellent care.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Atlantic Time at York Funeral Home T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, family suggests masks  be worn to protect the health of others; due to the Covid-19 pandemic, his service is limited to 50 attendees, by invitation. To enable all who loved Lyman and wish to honour his life, you are invited to attend the service by virtual Webcast at www.yorkfh.com (just click Funeral Webcast on the information bar).  For those who wish, donations in Lyman's memory may be made to the Gideon Bible Plan, York Care Foundation or the Devon Park Baptist Church.     Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
