The passing of Melbourne Arthur “Mel” Moir of Penniac, NB, occurred on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 17, 1938 in Bloomfield Ridge NB, he was a son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Bruce) Moir. Mel was involved most of his life in the automotive industry repairing, buying, selling and modifying automobiles as well as teaching in the auto repair trade. A very talented and innovative car enthusiast, he loved being around family and friends at a drag strip. He was always ready to lend a hand to whoever needed it. He wouldn’t just fix something, he would make it better. He’ll be remembered for his car show and drag strip winning 1955 Pontiac. Mel is survived by sons, Randy (Sheila), Mike (Laurie), Vernon (Jackie) and Aaron (Jessica); daughters, Terry, Patricia (Paul), Natalie (Tom) and Melinda (Peter); brother, Kenneth Moir (Noreen); sister, Wanda Lyons (David); 18 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his second wife, Lynda and parents, Mel was predeceased by his brother, Bryce Moir and an infant sister. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 3-6 pm. There will be no funeral service at Mel’s request. The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
