Obituary of Hazel Gilmore

The passing of Hazel Jean Gilmore, 97 years old, wife of the late Bertram Gilmore occurred on Friday, February 01, 2013 at the Nashwaak Villa. She was born on April 4, 1915 in Maple Grove, NB to the late William Sands and Winnifred (Ross) Sands LaFrance. She lived her whole life in Wardsettlement raising her large family. Hazel was affiliated with Hillcrest United Church, the UCW and was a lifetime member of the Women’s Institute. She was known for her cooking, crafts, quilting and knitting which were displayed annually at the Stanley Fair. She also made quilts for many babies in the area. Hazel is survived by nine children, Doris Dorcas (Vernon), Carl Gilmore, Douglas Gilmore (Jeannine), Gerald Gilmore (Lavona), Frances Moore (Brian), Glendon Gilmore, Dianne McManus (Ralph), Brian Gilmore (Tressa) and Ivan Gilmore (Lisa); 15 grandchildren, Kevin and Allan Dorcas, Dawna Foreman, Robbie and Jeff Gilmore, Chris and Andy Moore, Sheri Legacy, Julie Knaggs, Danny McManus, Bonny Wetlaufer, Allison Derrah, Brent Gilmore, John and Joel Gilmore; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; half-brother, Eldon LaFrance (Sabra); several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Hazel was predeceased by two sons, Robert and Fred; baby daughter, Elizabeth; three grandchildren, Margaret Flynn, Roger Moore and Shane Gilmore; two sisters, Ruby Dorcas and twin sister, Hilda Gullison; two half-sisters and two half-brothers. Special, heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Nashwaak Villa for their compassionate and loving care to our mother while she was a resident there. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Hillcrest United Church, Stanley, NB on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2 pm with Mr. Wally Ellis (DLM) officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be her grandchildren. Interment will take place in Hillcrest United Church Cemetery in the spring.
