Obituary of Ernest Jones

The passing of Ernest Herbert Jones, of Fredericton, NB, husband of Marjorie (Rae) Jones occurred on January 22, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 5, 1924 in Prince William, NB, he was a son of the late William and Alice (Hood) Jones. Ernest was a retired partner with Headpond Lumber Co. He attended St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, was an honourary life member of Alexandria Lodge # 33, Fredericton, a member of the Fredericton Shrine Club and was Justice of the Peace Appointed by Lt. Governor D.L. MacLaren for York County in 1953. Besides his wife, Ernest is survived by his daughters, Jeanette Merriam and her husband Leslie of Mactaquac, NB and Lisa Jones of Okotoks, AB; his sons, Douglas Jones of Fredericton, NB and Garnet Jones and his wife Jill of Okotoks, AB; eight grandchildren, Ross and Colin Merriam; Adam and Brett Jones; Brianne and Chris Bojarski; Holly Hoyles and her husband Darren and Jenny Jones and their mother, Shelley Jones; two great grandchildren, Shayanna Bojarski and Cohen Hoyles; sister, Florence Bartlett of Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Beulah Jones of Connecticut, USA; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Bertha Jones, Violet Brewer and Velma Stairs and his brother, Hazen Jones. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 1 pm with Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Interment will take place in St. Clement’s Cemetery, Prince William, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Fredericton Shrine Club “Transportation Fund” or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
