Obituary of Elizabeth Perley

Elizabeth Perley, formerly of Maugerville, NB, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at Mill Cove Nursing Home. Elizabeth was born in Carrawreagh, N. Ireland, she arrived in Canada at age 10 on April 1, 1929 with her parents, John and Jane (Chalmers) Black, and brothers and sisters, on the maiden voyage “Duchess of York”. Growing up in Kingsclear, she loved to attend church, sing with the choir, play the piano and organ; she also enjoyed baking and gardening with a passion for flowers. During WWII, Elizabeth and her mother helped to organize “The Cheerful Workers Club”, where socks and mittens were knitted and sent overseas to the troops. Elizabeth married Lloyd Perley in 1948, beginning her new life in Maugerville, raising three sons and recently celebrating her 64th anniversary. She always made her family her first priority and continued being active with the church and community. Elizabeth will always be remembered for her kind and caring ways. In addition to her husband, Lloyd, Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Jack and Edwin (Glenda); grandchildren, Harlane, Sarah (Ryan) and Craig; sister, Sarah Murray; brother, George (Hattie) Black; brother-in-law, Ernest McBain; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Dale; grandson, Jacob; sisters, Matilda (Randolph) and Jeanie; brothers, James, Daniel and John William (Berta). Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 1 pm followed by the funeral service at 2 pm with Rev. Stephen Budd officiating. Interment will take place in Maugerville Baptist Cemetery in the spring. A sincere thank you to the staff at Mill Cove Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave to Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
