Obituary of Irvine McCoombs

Irvine James McCoombs, 91, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, January 10, 2013, after a brief illness. Irvine was born in Fredericton, NB on November 25, 1921, the son of the late James and Gladys (Coy) McCoombs. Irvine joined the RCAF in 1942 and received an honourable discharge in 1945, as a leading aircraftman. In his younger years, Irvine enjoyed fishing and a round of golf with friends and until this year enjoyed his winters in Sebastian, Florida. Irvine was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Fredericton Rotary Club. Irvine is survived by his daughter, Linda (Paul) Curtis of Kentville, NS; sons, Gerald (Carol) McCoombs and Garth (Kathy) McCoombs all of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Terry (Jennifer) Curtis of Lincoln, NB, David Curtis of Ontario, Kelly (Terry) Murray, Jennifer (Jeremy) Beaver, Cory McCoombs, Sara McCoombs all of Fredericton, NB; great grandsons, Ethan and Rhys Curtis of Lincoln, NB; he is also survived by his companion, Louise Caya of Rhode Island; sister, Myrtle Randall of Fredericton, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Joyce (Mullin) McCoombs, he was predeceased by his grandson, Jason Curtis and brother, Gerald. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at Devon Park Baptist Church, 145 Clark Street on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 2 pm with Pastor Rob Burns officiating and Pastor Bob Dunlop assisting. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in memory of Irvine to the York Foundation, Chalmers Hospital Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
