Obituary of Jane Thomas

Thomas, Jane “Jennie” Isabel We are sorry to announce Jennie’s passing on December 30, 2012 at the York Care Center, Fredericton, NB. Jennie was born in Cross Creek, NB in 1917 to Willard and Lena Bishop. Jennie resided in Harvey Station, NB for many years. After her husband’s passing she moved to Fredericton and resided at Kinsman Court where she was very happy living closer to town. As her health deteriorated, she was then in the care of the Gagetown Special Care Home and later York Care Centre where she received excellent care. Throughout the years, Jennie and her husband Arthur raised six children. Jennie sewed and knit her family’s clothing for many years, in fact she knit socks and mittens for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until she could no longer knit due to poor eyesight and rheumatoid arthritis. Jennie loved to give at Christmas time and she also loved to shop. She loved to cook and her homemade bread was the best you could find. Her basement was full of pickles and jams that she made and her home was spotlessly clean. She will truly be missed. Jennie is survived by her children, Eileen Parker (Clarence) of Fredericton, NB, Jean Rowan (James) of Lincoln, NB, Virginia Phillips (Ben) of Tweedside, NB, Arthur Thomas Jr. (Helene) of Kingsclear, NB and John Thomas (Lorraine) of Lincoln, NB; brother George Bishop (Ellen) of Grand Bay Westfield, NB; sister in law, Hazel Thomas of Fredericton, NB; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Jennie was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Thomas in 1975; daughter, Evelyn McLean of Fredericton, NB; great grandson Jamie Campbell; five brothers, Glenwood Bishop of Ontario, Stanley Bishop of Cork Station, NB, Gerald Bishop of Fredericton, NB and two infant brothers Jack and David. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, January 02, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, January 03, 2013 at 2 pm with the Director of Pastoral Care Peter Thomas officiating. Interment will take place in the Harvey Community Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers for the service will be her grandsons, Michael Parker, James McLean, Andrew Phillips, Richard Thomas, Brian Thomas and Matthew Thomas.
