Sparling, Eva Verna
Eva Verna Sparling, died peacefully in the presence of family, on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at York Care Centre, Fredericton, NB. Eva was the wife of the late Desmond Sparling. Born on June 10, 1920 in Toronto, ON, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Edith (Blakeley) Bangay. Eva trained to be a nurse in Belleville, ON, she worked at Kingston General Hospital during WWII, and then later at the Montreal Neurological Institute, Queen Mary Veterans Hospital and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She met her future husband at the McGill hospital where Des was recovering from a war wound and she was serving as a nurse. Since 1966, she jointly owned and operated with her husband the House of International Dolls Museum on PEI. She was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church and the UCW.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Pamela Leviton (Robert) of Ottawa, ON, Anne Sparling of Fredericton, NB and Maureen Robichaud (Michael) of Hampton, NB; sons, Frederick Sparling (Florence) of St. John’s, NL and Paul Sparling of Fredericton, NB; seven grandchildren Kevin Sparling, Maggie Sparling, Leah Leviton, Joel Leviton, Benjamin Leviton, Meghan Robichaud and Sam Robichaud; two great grandchildren, Amrita Rutter and Sita Rutter; brother, Ralph Bangay (Eugenia) of Brighton, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides Eva’s husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Olga Kerr and brother, Burt Bangay.
She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful mother, relative, friend, nurse, and person and also as a favorite Aunt.
As the family requested, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at the Naskwaaksis United Church, Fredericton, NB on January 12, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
