Obituary of David Culligan
Surrounded by his family, David Alwyn James “Dave” Culligan, husband of Bonnie (Fullerton) Culligan of Fredericton, NB, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born in Fredericton, NB on August 15, 1947, Dave was a son of the late Austin and Norah (Givens) Culligan. Dave worked in laundry and housekeeping at the DVA and DECRH until his retirement. He was a member of Marysville Baptist Church, served with the Christian Service Brigade, as an AWANA leader, Sunday School teacher, and enjoyed studying the Bible. Dave had an active life, spending time in the militia, coaching girls’ softball, minor baseball and ringette. He participated annually in the Relay for Life, liked playing crib and bingo, reading, watching movies, dancing, family vacations to PEI, and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.
In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by three children, Trudy Richardson (Kevin) of Saint John, NB, Jamie Roy (Steven) of Fredericton, NB, Scott Culligan of Oxford, England; two grandchildren, Devon and Jayden Roy; five siblings, Ralph Culligan (Louise) of Thornhill, ON, Ian Culligan (Janet) of Fredericton, NB, Brian Culligan of Fredericton, NB, Joanne O’Donnell of Fredericton, NB and Paul Culligan (Debbie) of Dartmouth, NS; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his beloved dog Simba “Pookie Bear”.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Marysville Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 1 pm with Rev. Peter Sherwood officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Bank Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Chalmers Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care), Relay for Life or a charity of the donor’s choice.
