Obituary of Jean Holyoke

The passing of Jean Mary Holyoke of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Ernest “Rob” Holyoke occurred on Thursday, September 06, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 29, 1927 in Nashwaaksis, NB, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Waneta (Clarkson) Currie. Jean enjoyed her home and family and was an avid reader, camper and knitter. Educated in Nashwaaksis School and Fredericton High School, she worked as a secretary in a number of Fredericton business offices. She was a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, UCW and was actively involved throughout her lifetime in church activities, CGIT, Church Council, Sunday School and Choir (as a member of the choir for over 60 years). She was active in Community Organizations, an original member of the Nashwaaksis Recreation council and a member of the Rink Planning Committee. She was also a former member of the Epsilon Y’s Menettes and a founding member of the York Manor Auxiliary. Jean is survived by her three sons, Andy Holyoke (Heather) of Fredericton, NB, Tim Holyoke (Francesca) of Keswick Ridge, NB and Mac Holyoke (Suzie) of Oakville, ON; seven grandchildren, Sara Holyoke (Kristian Dewar), Lisa Holyoke Walsh (Mike), Jenny Holyoke, Ken Holyoke (Carolyn Wilkinson), Stevie Holyoke (Davis Schryer), Amanda Holyoke and Alex Holyoke; three great grandchildren, Evie Walsh, Emma and Livvy Dewar; several brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen Vaughan. Although there will be no visitation by request; a Memorial Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 1 pm with Rev. J. D. Kennedy officiating and Rev. Gil MacKenzie assisting. Honourary Pallbearers for the service will be Peter, Craig and Kent Vaughan, Pat and Josh Allanach, UCW Unit 4 members, Shirley Harper, Ruth Brewer, Katherine Johnstone, Brenda Vaughan, Sally Allanach and Mary Ardyth Cameron. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Nashwaaksis United Church.
