Obituary of Lynn Porter

After a short, courageous battle with cancer, Lynn Diane Porter of Royal Road, Fredericton, NB, slipped into the arms of Jesus, with her husband Steven by her side, on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 3, 1957 in Saint John’s, NF, she was the daughter of the late Ron and Patricia (Buckler) Balcom. She worked at Kent Building Supplies-Northside as a sales associate in the paint department. Lynn faithfully and actively attended Devon Park Baptist Church, where with her husband, she taught Sunday school (4 and 5 year olds) for 26 years, and was an Awana Children’s Ministry Leader for many years, a member of the church ladies auxiliary and loved singing in the church choir, especially the Living Christmas Tree. Lynn enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, photography and was an Avon Sales Representative for 19 years. In addition to her husband of 25 years, Lynn is survived by her daughter, Joanna Lynn Brewster (Kenny) of Truro, NS; siblings, Gail Gillen of Fredericton, NB and Michael “Mike” Balcom of Shediac, NB; several aunts and uncles; nieces, Krista Gillen and her daughter, Laeticia, Amelia Porter, Hannah Porter; mother-in-law, Mary Porter of Estey’s Bridge, NB; brothers-in-law, Kevin Porter (Jasmine) of Toronto, ON and Rev. Matthew Porter (Lisa) of Moncton, NB; stepmom, Pauline Balcom of Fredericton, NB; grand puppy, Marley Brewster. Lynn was predeceased by her father-in-law, David Porter; sister-in-law, Heather Porter and brother-in-law, Bob Gillen. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Devon Park Baptist Church on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Terry Woodcock officiating and Rev. Matthew Porter assisting. Interment will take place in Seymour Memorial Cemetery, Kingsley, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Devon Park Christian School or the Devon Park Baptist Church Sunday School.
