Obituary of Winnifred Kelly

Kelly, Winifred Rebecca May 30, 1924 - July 29, 2012 With heavy hearts the family of Winifred Rebecca (Currie) Kelly announces her unexpected death, at home, on Sunday morning. Predeceased in 2010 by her devoted husband of 64 years, Charles William Kelly, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Lena (Crouse) Currie of Douglas, NB. After raising her family, Mum took time to volunteer at York Manor, teach art classes at the Seniors’ Centre, travel and delight in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Weekly quilting with friends was something she dearly enjoyed. Mum was a meticulous quilter and knitter, rarely without a pair of needles clicking as she tracked the Blue Jays’ ball games. Being able to share her quilting, knitting, and artistic skills brought Mum great pleasure. Family and close friends also knew her as a tireless and competitive card player. Evenings often found Mum laughing over a card game around the kitchen table. She was a life long member of Douglas Baptist Church. Winifred is survived by her son, Brent Kelly (Sharon) of Douglas, NB; four daughters Elsbeth Kelly (Don Hitchman) of Nasonworth, NB, Nellie Williams (George) of Douglas, NB, Lorraine Kelly of Douglas, NB and Natalie Dykstra (Wietze) of Knowlesville, NB. Five granddaughters survive her, Andrea Green (Jonathan) of Douglas, NB, Carolyn McAffee (Tony) of Douglas, NB, Allison, Holly and Kimberly Dykstra of Knowlesville, NB and four great grandsons, Anthony and Mitchell McAffee, Noah and David Green all of Douglas, NB; she is also survived by her sister, Mildred Ring (Boyd) of Fredericton, NB and her brother, Leo Currie (Hazel) of Fredericton, NB; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Lizzie Wilcox and Susan Sypher and three brothers, Oscar, Elwood and D’Arcy Currie. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at Douglas Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 2 pm with Pastor Peter Moore officiating. Interment will take place in Dayton Cemetery.
