Obituary of Ashley Shepard

The passing of Ashley Allan Shepard of Douglas, NB, husband of the late Marion Louise Shepard, occurred on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born on March 14, 1924 on the farm where he was born and raised, he was the son of the late Allan and Bertie Shepard. Ashley obtained a degree in Geology at UNB and worked as a Geologist in Northern Ontario Mines in his earlier years. He then started a family and then worked as a teacher and principle in the education system and greatly enjoyed teaching the sciences. He then obtained his second degree from UNB for Education. Ashley was an avid singer and was a part of a male quartet where he loved visiting nursing homes, hospitals and churches sharing their religious hymns. He enjoyed growing his garden of vegetables and flowers and also greatly enjoyed owning his sugar bush in Bear Island where he worked alongside his family at this for years. Ashley was a real outdoors person who enjoyed all aspects of nature. In his later years, Ashley was working at the Legislative Assembly Library in Fredericton maintaining Government Documents. He was a past treasurer and active member of Keswick Baptist Church for many years. Most of all, Ashley was very family oriented. Ashley is survived by his children, Alan Shepard (Pat) of Mississauga, ON, Joan Beyette (Danny) of Napanee, ON, Gordon Shepard (Chantal) of Burtts Corner, NB, Karen McMahon (Brian) of Rothesay NB; grandchildren, Cara, Samuel and Isabelle Shepard, Ronan McMahon, Lachlan McMahon; sister-in-law, Lorna Shepard of Burtts Corner, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Ashley was predeceased by three brothers, Garfield, Mered, Walter Shepard and one infant sister. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Keswick Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 11am with Pastor Bev Jewett officiating and Rev. Ronald Curtis assisting. Interment will take place in the Keswick Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Keswick Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
