Obituary of Melvin Betts
The passing of Melvin “Mel” Edgar Betts of Doaktown, NB, husband of Maureen (Gray) Betts, occurred unexpectantly on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 11, 1931 in Doaktown, NB, he was the son of the late Marven and Grace (Robinson) Betts. He worked as a carpenter in his earlier years and then worked for Russell and Swim Lumber Co., for over 30 years. Mel loved woodworking, woodturning and fishing. He will be remembered as a quiet man, who loved being at home and the time spent at his camp in Dungarvon.
In addition to his wife, Mel is survived by daughter, Patricia Malcolm (Steve) of Kitchener, ON; sons, Jeffrey Betts (Wendy) of Lower Kingsclear, NB and Wayne Betts (Tina) of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Lloyd Betts (Lillian) of New Bandon, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Leola Justason, Jean Fraser and Doris Storey; brother, Francis Betts.
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Thomas United Church on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley officiating. Interment will take place in St. Thomas United Church Cemetery.
