Obituary of George Currie

The passing of George Sterling Currie, husband of Mavis (Jones) Currie, of Fredericton, occurred on April 24, 2011 at York Manor Nursing Home. Born on July 26, 1917 in Queensbury, NB, he was a son of the late Hedley and Hattie (Hagerman) Currie. In George’s earlier years he farmed and did woods work. Later in life he owned a trucking business with his brother, Frank. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Valerie Garden (Doug) of Martensville, SK; three grandsons, Sean, Kyle and Robin; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Ian Fleming; sister, Gertrude Edwards; two brothers, Albert and Frank Currie. Although there will be no visitation by request, a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 1 pm from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Pastor Merrill Slipp and Dr. Amos Adeniyi officiating. Interment will take place in Scotch Settlement Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Keswick Ridge United Church, Scotch Settlement Cemetery or the Alzheimer Society. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
