The passing of Eileen Grace Smith, age 97, of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Douglas H. Smith occurred on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 25, 1915 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Mary A. (Ferris) Blakney. Eileen was a founding member of the Greenwood Drive Baptist Church. In her early years she was an active member in several Ladies Groups and The Baby Band, receiving a life membership in her church. She was also a life member of the Carleton York Chapter of the I.O.D.E. Eileen spent several years as a Practical Nurse at York Manor which she loved very much. “Nanny” as she was called, dearly loved her family and had many gatherings at her home, where everyone enjoyed her good cooking and fellowship. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Eileen is survived by her children, Doreen (Donald) Wilson and Philip (Linda) Smith; grandchildren, Kimberley (Timothy) Rickard, Christopher (Deidre) Wilson, Shaun Smith and Graham Smith; great grandchildren, Kathleen Curtis, Daniel (Courtney) Rickard, James Rickard, Hailee Smith, Logan Lehner, Kyle Brewer, Jacob Wilson and Samuel Wilson; great great grandchildren, Marlee Rickard and Renna Rickard; sister-in-law, Dawn Smith of Moncton, NB; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Eileen was predeceased by her sister, Marion (Gerald) Welton; brothers, Roy and Bert (Edith) Blakney; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys (George) Fletcher, Ernestine (Roy) Cochrane and LeBaron Smith. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Greenwood Drive Baptist Church on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Gordon Cook officiating. A Private Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Gideon Bible Plan, Greenwood Drive Baptist Church, Greenhill Lake Camp or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
