Obituary of Louis McDonald

It is with profound sadness that the family of Louis Charles McDonald announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, following a long and courageous battle with ALS. Born in Fredericton, NB, in 1932, he was the son of the late Louis F. and Marcelline (Higgins) McDonald. Louis leaves his grieving wife, Tina (Walton); a devoted daughter, Catherine (Gerald) Sutherland; faithful sons, Joe (Sue-Anne) of Fredericton, Bill (Karen) of Dauphin Manitoba, and Todd (Anne) of Fredericton and grandchildren, Jenna, Neil, Kevin, Steven, Brian, Jason, Michael and Ryan. He is also survived by one sister, Anna Marie Cassidy (Fred Hooper) of Burlington, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Murray, and brother-in-law, Clayton Cassidy. A life-long resident of Fredericton, Louis attended Fredericton High School (class of 1953) and continued his education at the University of New Brunswick (class of 1957). After a long and distinguished career in the private sector of the construction business, Louis was employed with the Province of New Brunswick as Project Manager for the construction of hospitals and schools for the Department of Supply and Services, as well as the Department of Tourism. Louis was well known for his talent for making others laugh. In later years, he would send many jokes over the email but his greatest source of love and laughter was his grandchildren and spending time rebuilding the camp at Grand Lake. Faith, family and friends always provided Louis the inspiration to meet the often difficult challenges he faced on a daily basis. The family would like to thank all of his faithful friends, Father Gerry White, the DECRH staff at 3SW, 3E, as well as Doctors Sid Grant, Gordon McDonald, Jacques Beland and the ever faithful Dr Stephen Hart for his many years of compassionate care. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at St Anthony's Catholic Church, 603 Union Street, Fredericton with Rev. Gerald M. White as celebrant. Reception will follow. No flowers by request, for those who wish remembrances may be made to the ALS Society of NB, St Anthony's Cemetery Fund or Red Cross. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
