Obituary of Ruby Dunlap

The passing of Ruby Hazel Dunlap of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Walter Dunlap occurred on Friday, September 16, 2011 at home. Born on February 22, 1925 in Greenhill, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Gertrude (Clark) Sellick. Ruby is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She moved to Fredericton from Greenhill when she was 18 where she met and married her husband of 40 years, Walter. She was a housewife who loved and cared for her family and whom her family loved dearly. Ruby was a kind and gentle woman who drew her strength from her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She felt God’s calling at a very young age, but it wasn’t until 1958, that she accepted Jesus as her Saviour and began attending The Salvation Army at The Edgewood Outpost on Killarney Road (now St. Mary’s Street). She was the Cradle Roll Sergeant and a Sunday School Teacher. She was very involved in the Home League and League of Mercy. She loved getting out to the meetings and socializing with other Christians. She is now “Safe in the Arms of Jesus”. Ruby is survived by her children, Lois McLean of Fredericton, NB, Robert Dunlap (Mary) of Castlegar, BC, David Dunlap of Rusagonis, NB and Ruth Ryan (Doug) of Fredericton, NB; daughter-in-law, Valerie Dunlap of Killarney, NB; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; four step grandsons and five grandsons-in-law; aunt, Hazel Thomas; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Douglas; granddaughter, Faye McLean; great granddaughter, Tracy Dunlap-Allen; sisters, twin Ruth, Alice, Muriel, Doris, Evelyn and Joyce and brothers, Clarence, Raymond and Harold.
