Obituary of Marjorie Darby

Marjorie “Marj” Alma (Wilson) Darby died peacefully in her sleep at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the age of 85. She was born in Saint John West, the daughter of James Arthur “Art” Wilson and Muriel Irene Craft; stepdaughter of Effie Pauline (Moore) Wilson. She is survived by her children, Gail (Barney Jeffrey), John (Mary), Deborah Baxter (John), Tom, Joan, Rebecca Charman and Marjorie van Brugge (Michael); ten grandchildren, Graham, Hope and Paige Darby, Ian, Jordan and Victoria Baxter, Tabitha, Sarah and Wesley Charman and Zoe Harris; son-in-law, Peter Harris; brother-in-law, Bill King; niece, Kathy Durrell (Patrick); two step-grandchildren, Anthony Gagan and Jessica Grant (Stephen) and their daughter, Jennifer. Besides her parents, stepmother and husband, John Flockhart Darby (1974), she was predeceased by her daughter, Kate Harris; sister, Joan King; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; son-in-law, Alan Charman and brother-in-law, Bill Darby. Marj loved her family first and foremost; she loved to travel, especially her bus trips and cruises. Her highlight was a 100 day world cruise that she took in 2007. She loved her various careers including reporting for the Sudbury Star, owning her own business in Owen Sound. She retired from Eaton’s in Toronto, but went back to work in Ottawa for the 2001 census, at the age of 75. She loved to read, followed the Blue Jays, played games on the computer, kept up with family and friends via email and was a whiz at card games. She moved from Toronto to Penniac in 1997 and loved being back in New Brunswick after living in Ontario for many years. An Anglican by birth, she attended Penniac United Church. Marj was an honest, hardworking, fun loving person, a great Mom and Grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Lambropoulos, and the many doctors and nurses that treated her with such caring and respect. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 12 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2 pm with Rev. Mac Campbell officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made in Marjorie’s memory to the CNIB or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
