Obituary of Wendell Collicott
Wendell was a graduate of Southampton Regional High School and the N.B.T.I. in Industrial Vocational Education. He taught in Richmond, QC, Boiestown, Fredericton Junction and Fredericton, retiring in 1986. He was also a graduate of Bradley University, Peoria, Ill. and the University of Maine. In 1963, he was awarded a Beaverbrook Teachers’ Overseas Scholarship and studied at the University of London. He was an active member of the Nashwaaksis United Church, the Senior Choir and the Red Sweater Men’s Choir. He also was a longtime member of the Fredericton Christian Men’s Fellowship. Wendell especially enjoyed spending time at the cottage he built at New River Beach. His many interests included travelling, photography, woodworking, watercolour painting and gardening. He was a member of the Senior Woodwork Shop, the Fredericton Society of Artists, the Turps Painting Club and the New Brunswick Society of Retired Teachers. He enjoyed the fellowship at the Fredericton Golden Club and the Golden Club Singers.
Wendell is survived by Arlene, his wife of 55 years; two sons, Darrell and Brian both of Fredericton, NB; one sister, Glenna Blair (Bill) of Ottawa, ON; a niece, a nephew and cousins.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1 pm with Rev. J.D. Kennedy and Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nashwaaksis United Church or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
