Obituary of Mary Daly

The passing of Mary Daly occurred at her home in Fredericton, NB on Saturday, October 22, 2011, after a period of failing health. Born in Richardson, Deer Island, she was the daughter of the late A. Harold Lord and Bessie Lambert Lord, and the wife of the late Herbert Daly. She attended Island schools, was a leader of Girl Scouts, a member of the Lords Cove Church of Christ, and worked in the office of H. W. Welch Ltd. at Fairhaven. After moving to Fredericton, she worked for NB Tel in Fredericton and Oromocto. Mary was the last surviving member of her family. After her marriage to Herb, they opened their home to Teachers’ College girls as well as working girls and made many lasting friendships over the years. One of those girls is Joanne Morin, who after many years returned to help when Herb was ill and then stayed on and shared a home with Mary. She is survived by nephew, Arthur (Marilyn) Richardson; nieces, Janet (Arthur) Love, Joyce (Bernard) Dickson and Cynthia Lord and their families; sisters-in-law, Barbara (VanDine) Lord and Alva (Craig) Lord; brother-in-law, Carson (Wyona) Daley of Bathurst and their son, Dale Daley and family; as well Herb’s family, stepson, Gordon; stepdaughter, Joyce (Donald) Gemmell; six step-grandchildren and their families; special friend, Joanne Morin and her daughter, Kim of Ottawa. Mary Leah was predeceased by her siblings, Lambert, Carolyn, Edward and Horace; sister-in-law, Myrtle (Pendleton) Lord and brother-in-law, Norman Richardson; nephew, Michael Lord and Herb’s daughter, Ann DeBoo. The body will rest at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 4-7 pm with the funeral service at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11 am with Ven. John T. Sharpe officiating, with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers for this service will be Arthur Richardson, William Anderson, Richard Brown, Arthur Love, Bernard Dickson and Ralph Ferguson.
