Obituary of Grace Spencer

The death of Grace Amelia (MacMillan) Spencer, wife of the late Charles Andrew Spencer, occurred on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was 93 years of age. Born in Boiestown, NB, on May 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Allister and Frances (Kinney) MacMillan. Grace Spencer taught school for thirty-five years and was the author of two books, one of which was titled, “A History of Early Boiestown”. Grace had a passion for family genealogy, belonged to the Boiestown United Church where she was a choir member for many years, a life member of the United Church Women and a former church organist. She was an honourary life member of the Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s Museum and was a member of the former Upper Miramichi Choral Group. In 2004 she received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Miramichi Board of Trade. Among her many interests were knitting, quilting, oil painting and gardening. Grace is survived by her daughter, Frances Stewart (Hazen) of Charlton, MA; son, Graeme Spencer (Susan) of Hanwell, NB; six grandchildren, Angela Blaisdell (Michael), John Stewart (Lisa), Daniel Stewart (Lori-Jean), Matthew Stewart, Charles Spencer (Marci), Greg Spencer (Sonia); seven great grandchildren, Katherine and John Blaisdell, Sarah, Lauren, and Joshua Stewart, Owen and Lliam Stewart; two brothers, Clair MacMillan (Lillian) of Fredericton, NB and Floyd MacMillan (Ruby) of North Bay, ON; several nephews and nieces. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband, Charles Andrew Spencer in 1998 and by her sister, Ruth MacMillan. Visitation will be held at the Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place in Boiestown United Church on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2 pm with Mr. Wally Ellis (DLM) officiating. Interment will follow in the Boiestown United Church Cemetery.
