Obituary of James Morton

James “Jim” Edwin Morton 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Oromocto Public Hospital, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Ward Settlement, NB, on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942, he was the son of the late York and Glennie (Flynn) Morton. Jim spent his professional career starting Chestnut Canoe Ltd., Fredericton, NB; He also worked for Atomic Energy of Canada in Ottawa, ON and ADI Ltd., Fredericton, NB in the Accounting Departments. He was the Treasurer for the Oromocto United Church for several years and was a member of the Upper and Lower Durham Cemetery Committee. Jim loved reading detective and western novels, enjoyed both country and gospel music, doing crossword puzzles and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his loving wife, Marie (Munn) Morton, Jim is survived by his son, Christopher; brothers, Walter (Phyllis) Morton and Robert (Bonnie) Morton; sister, Mary Alma (Douglas) Sears; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; sisters in law, Mildred (Dolly) McCoy, Ruthie (Wavell) Price, Nellie (Clifford) Albright; brothers in law, Maurice (Barb) Munn, Nelson (Marlene) Munn and Joseph (Helen) Munn; special aunt, Lorna Estey and close friend, Gary Peterson. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating. Pallbearers are Chris Morton, Walter Morton, Bob Morton, Mike Morton, Wayne Robertson and Jeffrey Morgan. Interment will take place in Upper Durham Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Family Flowers only please, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Upper or Lower Durham Memorial Cemetery.
