Obituary of Sherman Yerxa

With his wife of 64 years, Shirley Elizabeth (Morrison) Yerxa at his side and surrounded by his loving family, Sherman Hagerman Yerxa went home to Heaven on Thursday, March, 22, 2012. Born on February 5, 1927 in Keswick, NB, he was the son of the late Moses and Ella (Hagerman) Yerxa. He was baptist by faith. Sherman owned and operated a trucking and logging business; he also worked at Kings Landing for many years, where he was known as the “Singing Teamster”. He enjoyed attending music jams and horse pulls but most of all Sherman will be remembered as a great story teller. In addition to his wife, he his survived by his children, Ray Yerxa (Lorraine) of Keswick, NB, Ida May Tucker (Stephen) of Hampton, NB, Mavis Corey (Avon) of Keswick, NB and Dianne Patterson (Tim) of Keswick, NB; grandchildren, Sheldon (Amy) Yerxa, Jessica (Phil) Yerxa, Lisa (Andrew) Allen, Shawn Tucker, Stacey (Michael) Sullivan, Amy (Philemon) Lawrence, Alex Corey, Bradley, Laura, Kyle, Jordan (Michelle) and Melissa Patterson; twelve great grandchildren, Avery, Brooke, Mylee, Logan, Lacey, Luke, Grace, Elias, Ella, Keira, Annalisa and Milo; sister in law, Jean Yerxa; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ethel (Yerxa) Taylor and brothers, Albert and Guy Yerxa; nephews, Dan Yerxa and Jim Taylor. A Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 4-6 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Peter Beckwith officiating and Pastor Bev Jewett assisting. Interment will take place in Keswick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Keswick Cemetery or the Fredericton Area Down Syndrome Society.
