Obituary of Henry Fairbairn

The passing of Henry (Harry) Fairbairn, husband of the late Katherine (Tuttle) Fairbairn of Fredericton, NB occurred on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Veteran’s Health Unit in Fredericton, NB. Harry was born on April 6, 1924 in Kircaldy, Scotland. He was a member of the RAF and served in World War II. After the war Harry came to Canada in 1948 where he met Katherine and they later married in Toronto, ON in 1954. Harry graduated from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB in 1957 where he continued working as a professor of mathematics until his retirement in 1989. Harry was a member of the UNB soccer team from 1950-1954 and continued to enjoy watching the games. Harry took great interest in local and national politics, was an avid reader, enjoyed the sea; especially tall ships. Harry is survived by four sons, Ross and Scott (Beth) of Fredericton, NB, Duncan, of Calgary, AB and Todd of Burnaby, BC; two grandchildren, Sydney and Mitchell; nieces Lois Anne Bishop of Toronto, ON, Margret-Ann (Fred) Eggleston, Roberta Webster, nephews James (Helen), David, Bryan, and Duncan Webster all of the UK. Besides his wife and parents, Harry was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Webster of Kircaldy, Scotland. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at the Veteran’s Health Unit (Priestman St. Wing) in Fredericton, NB. Those individuals are to be commended for their compassion, generosity, and kindness to Harry and our family during his stay from August, 2011 until the time of his passing. Thanks also to the staff of 4E at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, caregiver Carol Hayward, our family and friends who have provided support over many years. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. A graveside service will be held in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
