Obituary of Jeanie Paterson
The passing of Jeanie “Jean” (Hunter) Paterson of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late James Paterson, occurred on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born on August 30, 1921 in Motherwell, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Walkinshaw) Hunter. Jean was a veteran of the Royal Air Force – Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), serving in England. She immigrated to Fonthill, ON, Canada from Scotland with her husband and two daughters in 1957. She then moved to Fredericton in 1996.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Irene Hunter (Tony Turner) of Canberra, Australia and Hazel Connell (Patrick) of Fredericton, NB; five grandchildren, Shannon Wood, of Burlington, ON, Katrina Fleming (Jason), of Stony Plain, AB, Lindsay Slavin (Ted), of Beamsville, ON, Shaun Connell, of Calgary, AB and James Connell of Fredericton, NB; five great-grandchildren, Fiona, Kieran and Rosheen Fleming, Genny and Alexandra Slavin; one brother, Jim Hunter (Audrey), of Coventry, England; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Carson (Davey) and Elizabeth “Betty” Mayberry (Wallace) both formerly of Scotland; one brother, Noble Hunter (Joan), formerly of England.
Jean loved life, family, her faith community and the comfort of so many good friends. Her always present smile and outgoing personality – left all those she touched in life...with the warmth of a sunshine filled day. She will be missed and not forgotten.
There will be no public visitation by request. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 2 pm with Mr. Tony Carter officiating. Interment will take place in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill, ON at a later date.
