Obituary of Olga Pond

The passing of Olga Alfreda (Watts) Pond of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Douglas Pond, occurred on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at York Care Centre. Born December 11, 1913 in Marysville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice (Sherwood) Watts. For many years Olga was an active member of the Marysville Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping, whether it was with the Pond Missionary Society, the church choir or at “Morning Out”. But her definition of the “community” that needed her help extended beyond the borders of Marysville; for years Olga sponsored children through World Vision in countries as diverse as Malawi, Thailand, San Salvador and Bangladesh. She loved tennis and she and her son would have meals planned around the finals of Wimbledon, the Canadian and US Open and, of course, the French Open where she would root for Nadel while her son cheered on Federer. Olga enjoyed other games as well, mostly Scrabble which she played with any number of friends. Other passions were knitting for family members, friends and the Christmas mitten tree at her church. She also played the piano all her life, often singing along when there was nobody around. Olga is survived by her sons, Melbourne (Sandra) and Carl, both of Fredericton, NB; daughters, Nelda Wark (Donald) of Perth, ON and Bonny Pond (Auguste Gallant) of Grand-Barachois, NB; son-in-law, David Kindred of Sussex, NB; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Arlene Kindred; two half-sisters, Wilha Collins and Theora Miller; two half-brothers, Maurice and Percy Watts and two very special friends, Marg Minue and Margaret Watts. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from the Marysville Baptist Church on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. Pallbearers will be David Watts, David Kindred, Kevin Darrah, Ralph Brown, Gary Murdoch and Al Whitney. Honouary Pallbearers will be James Miller and Gerald Miller. Internment will take place at a later date in the Marysville Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Marysville Baptist Church building fund, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
