Obituary of M. Louise Finley

Muriel Louise Finley passed away peacefully at York Care Centre in Fredericton, on February 22, 2012. Born on December 19, 1923 in Saint John to Harold and Muriel (Russell) Young, Louise was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bruce Finley of Fredericton, and her sister, Elizabeth Chase of Saint John. Louise is survived by her three sons Gregg (Lynda), Scott (Louise) and Dave (Karen) all of Fredericton; grandchildren Neil (Crystal), John (Joella), Sarah and Bruce; great-grandchildren Maguire, Malone and Monroe; and several nephews and nieces. Louise was a graduate of Saint John High School and Saint John Vocational School. As a young woman in the 1940s, she was employed by the Wartime Prices and Trade Board in Saint John. Later she served as Secretary to the Dean of Science at UNB Saint John, and the Deans of Nursing and Engineering at UNB Fredericton. Louise enjoyed a vibrant Christian faith. In the 1960s, she served as the first woman elder at Centenary-Queen Square United Church, Saint John. Later, she was an active layperson in various ministries in Saint John, Martinon, and Hampton. Her life was marked by a warm, generous and loving heart. Family relationships meant everything to Louise. She and Bruce were married for 60 years and much of that time was spent hosting family visits. Everyone especially enjoyed the get-togethers at their Smithtown home on the beautiful Hammond River. These were inevitably times of great fun, relaxation, celebration, good food and much laughter. Since 2003, Louise has received capable and compassionate attention from staff and volunteers at York Care Centre, Fredericton. The family is deeply grateful for the quality of this care. For those who wish, donations may be made in Louise’s name to York Care Centre through the York Foundation http://yorkfoundation.ca/, or to a charity of choice. A service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB.
