Obituary of Robert Macdonald

It is with great regret we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” James Macdonald on February 17, 2012 in Fredericton, NB. Bob was born in Sudbury, ON on December 31, 1935. He is survived by Sheila Joan, his loving wife of 52 years and his three children of whom he was so proud, Janine (Shawn), Kathleen (Nikolas) and David (Helen). He leaves seven grandchildren whom he loved very much and who returned that love, Sasha, Chelsea, Alexander, Emma, Sarah, Rachel and John. He was predeceased by his parents, Veronica and Roderick. Bob graduated from St. Mary's University, Halifax, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, from the University of Western Ontario, London, with a diploma in Business Administration and from the University of Ottawa, School of Health Administration, Ottawa, with a degree in Health Administration. His working career included both the private and the public sectors. He was employed by Coca-Cola (London and Kitchener) in local sales management, Dare Foods (London), Cow and Gate (Brockville) in national sales administration and the Province of New Brunswick (Fredericton) in various management positions, in social service and social housing. In addition to his family, Bob's life was strongly influenced by his faith. He lived believing in the presence of a loving God in his life and of the role of his Church in fostering that awareness. He also believed in everlasting life and knew that death in this life was the way to achieve that life. These deep beliefs helped him to live, calmly and hopefully, with cancer since January 2011. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Bob's life will take place at Holy Family Church, Hanwell Road on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2 pm with Father Jack Dolan and Father John Jennings as celebrants. A reception will take place in the church hall downstairs following the service and all are welcome. Bob asked before he died to tell people to pray for him because “for sure they won't go to waste in my case”. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Fredericton or Holy Family Parish Church. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
