Obituary of Martha Sparkes
The passing of Martha Muriel Christina Sparkes formerly of Stanley, NB, wife of the late Clair Byrne (Chick) Sparkes occurred on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Sussex Health Centre. Born on June 28, 1933 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (McCoombs) Humble. Martha was a housewife, and Postmaster of Cross Creek, NB. She was a member of the St. Peters Presbyterian Church, and also a former elder, choir member and ladies aid member. Martha was one of the founding members of the Just Friends Food Bank.
Martha is survived by her sons, Ken (Heather) of Sussex, NB, Ted (Wanda) of Sussex, NB, Blaine of Stanley, NB, Gerry (Mary) of Sussex, NB, Max (Sandy) of Edmonton, AB and Glen (Melanie) of Whitecourt, AB; special daughters, Loris and Julie; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Gertrude and brothers, Floyd, James and Ricky.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 2-5 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Peters Presbyterian Church, Stanley, NB on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Just Friends Food Bank.
