Obituary of James Doohan
Rev. James Walter Doohan of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Lillian (Johnston) Doohan went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the DVA Veterans Health Unit. Born on February 5, 1922 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late John and Ellen (Crowley) Doohan. He graduated from Fredericton High School in 1941. He was a Veteran of WWII as a Lead Air Craftsman in the Armour Gun Squad #18; after the war he went to Toronto Baptist Seminary, then as a Baptist Clergy he served churches in Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He was a member of the Devon Park Baptist Church and a member of the Arthritis Society. He enjoyed his time riding his horse, Goldie; he was a world traveler and had made many trips to Israel; he also enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his two daughters, Judi Cormier (Roger) of Maugerville, NB and Linda Powers (Mark) of Salisbury, NB; three sons, John (Ruth) of Belleisle Creek, NB, Doug (Wanda) of Wooster, Ohio and Patrick (Joanne) of Summerside, PEI; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary and brother, Fred.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11am with Rev. Bob Dunlop and Pastor Robert Burns officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanwell, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the DVA Veteran’s Health Unit; Devon Park Baptist Church – Rev. Bruce Moore Scholarship Fund or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation.
