Obituary of David Holland
The passing of David “Dave” Murray Holland of Fredericton, NB, husband of Ruth “Betty” (Soucie) Holland, occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on August 13, 1935, he was a son of the late John and Margaret “Nellie” (Kaine) Holland. Dave was employed with the Province of New Brunswick as a Bridge Inspector for 38 years, retiring in 1995. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, storytelling and watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Dave is survived by his sons, John (Lorraine) of Marysville, NB, Brian Holland of Tay Creek, NB and Andrew (Helene) of Marysville, NB; grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Matthew and Alexandre; sister, Robena Jones (Hazen) of St. Lambert, QE; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by an infant son, Andrew; infant daughter, Genavieve; sisters, Margaret Higgins and Alfreda Arnold; brothers, William and Robert Holland; nephews, John Daley and Peter Jones; nieces, Ellen Higgins and Anna Higgins; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 2 pm with Canon John Cathcart officiating. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of the donor’s choice.
