Obituary of Clara Gordon

The passing of Clara Marie (Palmer) Gordon of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Douglas Gordon, occurred on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at York Care Center. Born on May 22, 1917 in Tabusintac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Dora (MacLean) and Henry Palmer. Clara was a member of the Keswick Ridge Women’s Institute and of the Mactaquac Baptist Church. Clara graduated from the Provincial Normal School in 1935. She taught school at Keswick and Mactaquac. Clara was a housewife, helping Douglas and raising their children on the family farm in Keswick Ridge. Clara was a hard worker and took great pride in her home, family, and grandchildren. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed many kinds of handwork. Clara loved putting in a large garden every year and in the fall put up bottles of jams, pickles and vegetables for the winter months. She drove her car and mowed her lawns up until her late 80’s. In the last few years of declining health Clara had a smile and a quick wit for her caregivers and family. Clara is survived by her son, Murray Gordon (Pamela) of Keswick Ridge, NB; two daughters. Catherine Buck (Don Burrell) of Ottawa, ON, Esther Doran (Don) of Hampton, NB; three grandchildren, Jennifer Mittler (Matthew) of Fort McMurray AB, Mark Gordon of Keswick Ridge NB and David Buck of Dubai, UAE; great grandson Ewan Mittler; one brother, Boucher Palmer (Jean) of Tabusintac, NB; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Dougald Palmer and Andy Palmer; one sister, Gwendolyn Price and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Gordon) Grant, Ella Palmer, and Maude Palmer; brother-in-law Bob Price. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 12 noon until the time of the Funeral Service at 2pm with Rev. Ralph Irving and Rev. Richard Bragdon officiating. Interment will take place at the Mactaquac Baptist Church Cemetery, at a later date.
