Obituary of James Hamilton Smith

The passing of James Hamilton Smith of Kingsley, NB, husband of Mary (Hayden) Smith, occurred on Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 3, 1933 in Parkers Ridge, NB, he was the son of the late Alexander and Verna (Astle) Smith. James taught school for 39 years in the public sector as well as the New Brunswick Community College and was a member of the United Church of Canada. James enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid reader. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his son, Andrew Smith of Fredericton, NB; two daughters, Laura (Ken) Knight of Lower Queensbury, NB, Janey (Allan) Kennard of Keswick Ridge, NB; two brothers, Lawrence (Edna) of Kingsley, NB, Roy (Suzanne) Smith of Longueil, QC; two sisters, Marion (Fred) Plaster of Fredericton, NB, Beatrice LeBlanc of Kingston Peninsula, NB; Uncle Neill Astle, Halifax, NS; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers Eldon and Fred Smith. Visitation will take place from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon Macleod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 1pm until time of funeral service at 2pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in the Upper Knoxford Baptist Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
