Obituary of Hilda Taylor

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Hilda “Irene” Taylor of Fredericton, NB, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at home. We are however, comforted by knowing that our Mom/Gram is now reunited with her best friend and only love Walter “Allan” Taylor and their son, Danny. Born on November 26, 1931 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Shephard) Flowers. Irene was an affiliate of Gibson Memorial United Church. She lived her entire life in Barkers Point. Irene had fond memories of how she and Allan first met, while skating on the Saint John River, when they were teenagers and she recalled it was love at first sight. Irene graduated from Fredericton High School in 1949. She worked in the Accounting Department of the Daily Gleaner for many years before retiring in 1996. She enjoyed retirement and loved spending her summers at Grand Lake, making many “camper” friends over the years. Allan and Irene were members of the Barkers Point Lions Club, Home and School Association and the Recreation Council, where they spent many hours serving the community, in which they built their own home and brought up their family of five. Irene is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Sowers (Fred) of Fredericton, NB; daughter-in-law, Sandy (Danny) Taylor of Fredericton, NB; twin sons, Tom (Betty Giberson) of Howard Brook, NB and Tim (Pauline Flewelling) of Grand Lake, NB, Frank (Kim) of Silverwood, NB; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Piercy of Harvey, NB and several nieces and nephews. In additions to her parents, husband and son, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Slocum; brother, Toppy Flowers and her in-laws, Helen and Sam Taylor. Visitation will take place in York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be made offered through www.yorkfh.com
