Obituary of H. Blaine Thomas

The passing of H. Blaine Thomas of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Idella Thomas occurred on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 9, 1927 in McAdam, NB he was the son of the late Hugh A. and Dorothy E. (Robison) Thomas. Blaine was the owner of Blaine Thomas Travel Agency from January 1, 1974, until his retirement in 2000; he then sold the business to son-in-law and daughter, Bill and Susan Comeau. In 1978 he bought the building at the corner of York and King Streets in Fredericton to accommodate his growing travel agency, which for years was the largest single branch agency in NB in annual sales. Blaine coached little league baseball, hockey and was also a cub master and junior hockey club president. Blaine is survived by his children, Susan Comeau (Bill) of Upper Kingsclear, NB, Robert Thomas (Joy) of Fredericton, NB and Stephen Thomas (Susan) of Windsor, ON; grandchildren, Sean Comeau (Courtney) of Fredericton, NB, Meaghan Comeau (Matt Kelly) of Keswick Ridge, NB, James and Alex Thomas of Fredericton, NB, Courtney, Keith and Mitchell Thomas all of Windsor, ON; great grandson, Brayden Comeau; sister, Phyllis Walsh of Trumbull, CT, USA; sister-in-law, Edith Thomas of McAdam, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Blaine was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold, Irving, Stanton and Lawrence Thomas. Although there will be no visitation; a graveside service will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery at a later date.
