Obituary of Nicholas Jewett
With shattered hearts, the family of Nicholas Paul Jewett, of Burtts Corner, announces his passing on February 21, 2011 at the age of 31, after losing a lifelong struggle with Batten Disease. He was born on December 15, 1979. Nicholas was a member of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Zealand. As a child, Nicholas loved spending time with Grampy Morehouse and engaging in such activities as swimming, skating, playing hockey, cross-country skiing and riding his bike until Batten Disease reared its ugly head and gradually robbed him of his sight, cognition, memory and mobility. In 1998, he graduated from Nackawic High School, where he was known for his quick wit and sense of humour. His love for music and technology lead him to volunteer in the editing room at CHSR on the UNB campus. Nicholas faced all the adversity in his life with bravery. He met his daily challenges with no complaints. He gained his strength from God. Among the last words he spoke was the Lord’s Prayer. As an adult, his favourite pastimes were following all the games played by the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs, going to the movies and eating pizza.
He is survived by his parents, Paul L. Jewett and Patsy (Morehouse) Jewett of Burtts Corner, a sister, Teri Ann Jewett-Smith (Jeremy) of Fredericton, and a maternal grandmother, Zula (Wilson) Morehouse of Burtts Corner, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Mac Morehouse and his paternal grandfather, Harvey Jewett.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2 pm with Archdeacon John T. Sharpe officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Smith, Paul E. Jewett, Ross Wallace and Brian Wall. Interment will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Zealand at a later date.
