Obituary of Helen Riley

The passing of Helen Carman Riley of Douglas, NB, wife of Pat Riley, occurred on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on April 27, 1927 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Hildred (Savage) Mitchell. She was a member of the Sunset Church and the Ladies Prayer Group. Family always came first for Helen; she loved to share her gifts, such as knitting baby sweaters for the family. In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her children, Randy (Lynn), Peter (Vilma) and Mark (Kristy); daughter-in-law, Lynda Riley; grandchildren, Sandra Riley, Sharon Gratton (Rob), John Riley, Peter (Shannon), Richard (Wendy), Kelly Dobson (Jon), Dale (Lisa), Bobbi Jo Riley, Patrick and Jenny Riley, Monica Kirk (Pat) and David Riley (Lacey); fifteen great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; siblings, Mae Johnston, Warren Mitchell, Shirley Saunders and Merville Mitchell (Gail); sisters-in-law, Gwen, Marjorie and Marion Mitchell; brother-in-law, Bill LaPointe; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her son, Gary Riley; siblings, Gertrude Davidson, Geraldine Crawford, Millard, Murray, Irvine Mitchell, Faith LaPointe, Bill and Dale Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Zelda and Eleanor Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Gib Crawford, George Saunders, Joe Davidson and Don Johnston. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Sunset Church on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Joseph Beesley officiating and Rev. Richard Bragdon assisting. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
