Obituary of Meleme Cormier

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Meleme “Mel” Edmond Cormier, at the Oromocto Public Hospital on March 5, 2011. Mel was a proud Acadian from Saint Louis De Kent. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8654 and 4th Degree Assembly 0620. Mel was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4. Mel proudly served in the RCAF from 1957-1982 and then with Corrections Service N.B. 1982-1997 Mel is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Blain) Cormier; his children Paul Cormier of Saint John, NB, Michael (Shari) Cormier of Kitchener, ON, Mary-Ellen (Mike) Louvelle of Petawawa, ON; their mother Lorretta Cormier of Saint John, NB; Sylvia’s daughters, Nathalie Mills (Sylvain Lacoste), Monique Blain (Hal Peterson) both of Oromocto, NB; grandchildren, Michael and Jeffrey Louvelle, Benjamin and Shae Cormier, Jon and Joseph Mills, Kaitlynn and Alicia Lacoste; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Madison and Jade Louvelle; one brother Edmond Johnson of Saint Louis De Kent; eight sisters, Stella Vinqvist (late Paul) of Dieppe, NB, Rita (Andre) Cormier of Saint Louis De Kent, Alexina (Jean) Landry of Richibucto, NB, Sister Marie Babin of Dorval, QC, Adrienne Curran of Saint Louis De Kent, NB, Theresa Henwood (William) of Halifax, NS, Shirley Richard (Abdon) of Pointe Sapin, Dorothy (Al) Gelineau of SunCity, West Arizona; several nieces and nephews and his many relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 12 pm with Father John Jennings as Celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
