Obituary of Mabel Sloat

The passing of Mabel Mary Sloat of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Fred Sloat, occurred on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the York Manor Nursing Home. Born on October 5, 1920 in Ludlow, NB, she was the daughter of the late Merlin and Minnie (McKeil) Hovey. Mabel retired from the provincial government in 1984. She was a member of the Gibson Memorial United Church and the church choir. Mabel enjoyed spending time with her family. Mabel is survived by her two sons, Donald (Mabel) Sloat of Rothesay, NB and Kenneth (Myrna) Sloat of Prince William, NB; grandchildren, Kristen (Guy) Daigle of Quispamis, NB, Monica (Greg) LeBlanc of Mactaquac Heights, NB and Melanie Sloat (Steven) of Lake George, NB; great grandson, Alex LeBlanc; sister, Winnifred McSorley of Fredericton, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Helen Howe and brother, Ronald Hovey. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the charity of the donor’s choice.
