Obituary of Doreen Stewart

Doreen Patricia (Swazey) Stewart passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Moncton City Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 6, 1936 in Boiestown, NB, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Vickers) Swazey. She was a resident of People’s Park Tower since December, 2007 and prior was a resident of Boiestown, where she lived for 70 years. She was an avid basketball player in her youth, loved watching figure skating and also a devoted reader of anything regarding the royal family. She worked for school district 9 in her early career and then devoted several years working for Rocky Bend Fishing Club, where she was known for her great cooking. She was also a very active member of her community as well as her parish. She will be remembered for her love of life, her laughter and her giving nature. She was a devoted loving wife to Harley, a dedicated mother to David (Rachel) and Brian (Tracy) and an adoring grandmother to Matthew and Jenna. She also leaves behind her sister, Vivien (Joe) Brennan and five brothers, Lawrence (Annie), Lloyd (Patricia), Vincent (Hazel), Darrell (Georgette), Jim (Caroline) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon on Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Vigil (prayers) will be celebrated at 8:30 pm at the funeral home the last night of visiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, Boiestown on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 2 pm with Father Mark Trzop as celebrant. The committal will take place in the spring at St. Joachim’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Brain Tumor Foundation, Central NB Woodmen‘s Museum or to the Friends of Moncton Hospital.
