William Wood

Obituary of William Wood

Sitting by the back door of the house on Titus street, alone on the deacon’s bench. Waiting. Coats hanging from the pegs overhead brush against his shoulders. He waits for Lillian to finish her homework and come out for a walk. He can wait a long time as he knows he will forever be entertaining the “Love of His Life”. And so he did. They shared homes in Devon, Oromocto, Currieburg and Ottawa before they finally settled for good on the banks of the Miramichi in McNamee. Six children arrived in short order to share the jokes and hang on his every word over long evenings at the dinner table. He regaled them with the sights and tastes of Paris, Tokyo, London, Copenhagen and all the corners of the world he visited in his various travels for CMHC, Trans-Canada Truss, Campeau Corporation, L&A Machine Works, Central Software, and McCain Foods. Everywhere he went he influenced people with his humor, passion to learn, and interest in mentoring the growth of the best and brightest. When not traveling he always had some new hobby on which to focus: model railroading, TV repair, and private pilot (with a much coveted IFR rating). Finally, after all those decades on the road he settled down and would often go to enjoy the quiet of his camp on the Dungarvon with his dogs to write computer programs and enjoy just being still. He loved his work, his children and grandchildren. Most of all he did it just to show Lillian the depth of his love. Vance is the son of Basil Wood and is survived by his mother, Inez (nee Clowater); wife, Lillian (nee Titus); children, Hal (Sheila), Gail Palmer (Barry), Michael, Stephen (Barb), Bradley (Tanya), and Kelvin (Esther); ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held from Ludlow United Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Ludlow United Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11 am with Rev. Jack Willett officiating and Rev. Tom Townsend assisting. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family have requested donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
