Obituary of Evelyn Smith

The death of Evelyn Smith of Taxis River, NB, occurred at home on Friday, October 16, 2009 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born on April 25, 1935 at Parker’s Ridge, NB, Evelyn was the wife of Harold Smith. In addition to her husband of 58 ½ years, Evelyn is survived by one brother, Bernie Spencer of Hamilton, ON; two daughters, Teresa Donovan of Lincoln, NB and Sheryl Mercer and her husband, John of Lincoln, NB; one son, Lloyd and his wife, Annemarie of Oshawa, ON; four grandchildren, Lisa Wood (Donovan) and her partner, Terry Harris of Marysville, NB, Steven Donovan of Edmonton, AB, Christopher Mercer and his partner, Shelley Baker of Toronto, ON and Matthew Smith of Oshawa, ON; six great grandchildren, Jonathan, Chelsea and Ceilidh Wood, Natalie Harris, Tyson and Riley Donovan; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lyle and Idelle (Norrad) Spencer, Evelyn was predeceased by one brother, Norris and sister-in-law, Margaret Sutherland. Evelyn was a former member of the United Church Women of the Boiestown area and the church choir. Visitation will be held at the Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Boiestown United Church on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Beverly Daley officiating with interment in Parker’s Ridge Cemetery following the service. In remembrance of Evelyn and to help find a cure for cancer, the family welcomes donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
