Obituary of Donald Smith Lyons
The passing of Donald “Don” Lyons of Doaktown, NB, husband of Joan (Rice) Lyons, occurred on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 21, 1930 he was a son of the late Harold and Olive (Betts) Lyons. Don owned and operated Sunset Shangrila Fishing and Hunting Lodge for many years. Don’s passions were fishing, hunting and family. He was never happier than when casting a line or tracking the big buck. He was an excellent provider, who would go without so his family would not. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Don is survived by two daughters, Lila Casabella of PE and Kathleen McKinney (Jeff) of Merritt Island, Florida; two sons, Dale Lyons of Calgary, AB and Lyndon (Wendy) Lyons of Doaktown, NB; five grandchildren, Jaime Hitchon, Matthew Amos, Lyndsey Gallant, Donald Lyons and Christina Lyons; three great grandchildren, Jacob Gallant, Skye and Rogan Lyons; one sister, Annie Morrell of Ripples, NB; four brothers, Alvin (Mary) Lyons and Lloyd Lyons both of Doaktown, NB, Emmett Lyons of Calgary, AB and George (Darlene) Lyons of Cornwall, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by two sisters, Esther Clowater and Helen Donald; one brother, Charles Lyons.
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Doaktown United Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2pm with Pastor Tom Townsend officiating and Pastor J.A. Treese assisting. Interment will take place in Doaktown United Baptist Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Ostomy Association of Canada or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
